Tents and canopies with embedded solar cells generate 120 watts per square meter

Norwegian tent cloth company Tarpon Solar and Swedish thin film solar cell manufacturer Midsummer joined their products together to create ‘Suncloth’ and win Norway’s MTI Technology award for their tarpaulins and canvasses with embedded solar cells.

Tarpon develops standard sized and custom shaped coverings for temporary structures like marquees and pavilions as well as permanent or removable covers and awnings for stages, patios and swimming pools. Solar cells are laminated into the fabric in a way that the canvas is stronger and more durable and the weight is about the same as with PVC tent material.

Each square meter of the cloth can generate about 120 watts.
